Hi, my name is Bruna, I’m 21. I was born and lived in Brazil with my parents and brothers, Lukas (20 years), Karla (16 years) and Nathan (12 years). Being the oldest I’m more independent, I always took care of my brothers. When they were younger, I was at home when my parents had to leave. I’m their “driver”. I was always driving and picking them up at school and other activities. My brother Lukas, is passionate about animals. In our house we have dogs, birds, rabbits, turtles, almost a zoo! We are an evangelical family. We attend church every Sunday. I am passionate about life, I believe that life is the greatest gift God gave us. I graduated in 2009 in Advertising and Propaganda. During college I worked with my father in one of his companies. I was responsible for the financial department. After some times decided to work in my area, that was when I joined the marketing department of a film exhibitor, Cine-System. There I was in charge of promotions for the films. I talked with the distributors (Warner, Paramount, Fox, Disney…), a very nice job. I decided to leave the company because for a long time I have wished to live in another country, learn about the culture, learn the language, meet new people. My name is Bianca Cordova and I have 18 years old, my family and me are living in a town called Caborca in Sonora, Mexico. We are a family with three children, my brother is Diego (25), the follow sister is me and then my sister Alejandra (16). My dad is called Julio Cesar (52) and works as a journalist, my mother, Cecilia (44) is a homemaker. We are a family that loves animals and nature, so we love pets. Personally and for fun, I like doing things like traveling, watching movies, listening to music, playing sports and to go out with my friends. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke. My family is very hardworking and very early age I learned to be a useful person, responsable for my tasks. Thanks to that, I have concluded successfully my high school studies and I’ve had 3 jobs. Talking about my jobs, the 1st was two years ago at a clinic that provides health services for teachers. There, I was an assistant in the area of Human Resources and helped me a lot to learn to work with discipline and often under pressure. My 2nd job was in a kindergarten in my town, when doing my social service (250 hours required from high school). There, I was an educational Assistant helping a teacher of children with 5 years of age. It was a nice experience for me because I have always loved caring for children, even before I always did with my younger cousins. A year ago I knew about the Au Pair programs and from that moment I decided I wanted to participate. For this reason, I began to prepare and I got my third job in a Child Development and Care Center, which belongs to a local govvernment agency. It is a combination of nursery and kindergarten in which govvernment workers can bring their children from the age of 6 months to 5 years 11 months, to be cared when they’re working. There I started working as a social service and as I liked and I learned many things I was promoted to assistant, allowing me to cover the summer vacations of some teachers. They let me take care for a whole group! Makes me feel pround and happy. I feel that through my job at the clinic, I learned about having a responsability. While in the kindergarten and the Child Development and Care Center, I have acquired much experience in the care of children, learning a lot about their physical and emotional needs. I know I’m young but I got myself prepared a lot to that this won’t be a disadvantage, and formal documents that I have allows me to check everything I say here. I understand that many people trust me and I will not disappoint. I got studies about first aid to get an idea of what to do in case of emergency and took extra classes in English for improve my language skills. I live with my family in Adiyaman , a small town in the south of Turkey and I have a degree of English language teaching from Istanbul University, one of the oldest and best universities in Turkey. I have been to US two times with the program called Work and Travel for university students during summer of 2007 and 2008. I have been to Williamsburg and Georgetown before and I l would like to learn more about this fantastic country. First I would like to tell you something about my family and me: My name is May-Britt Körbelin, I am 18 years old and went to a grammar school with the economic department. I am very open-minded, kind, active, friendly, responsible and sympathetic. I am from Germany and live in a small village called Mittelnkirchen, which is near Hamburg. It’s a part of the largest fruit growing area in Europe. “Das Alte Land”. Besides fruit, there is the river Elbe. I grew up with my father Bjorn, my mother Susanne, my brother Soren and our little dog Idefix near the river. My father is captain, but a few years ago he changed into the office to be a Nautical Superintendent. My mother works as a management assistant in real estate in the bank Stade-Altes Land. There she works as a temporary employee and usually she is housewife. Soren is 16 years old and attends a grammar school. Because of the profession of my father, my brother and I didn’t only grow up near the Elbe, but also with it. Since we were young our family owns a boat. Earlier we had a speedboat, but one year ago my dad fulfilled his dream of having a sailing yacht. I have really good relation to all members of my family. But best I am with my brother. In our freetime we spend much time and we take a walk with the dog together everyday. Then we have various conversations. From time to time we eat in restaurants or do something with our friends, e.g. we go the beach to play beach volleyball or in winder we have snowball fights. My favourite activity is spending time with my best friends Regina and Rena. I can talk with them about everything and we always have very much fun together. They are both as much full of life as I. Because of our spontaneity we are never bored. Furthermore I spend my spare time with babysitting, homework help, working in the supermarket at the cash desk, sometimes I play basketball and often meet friends. We like to do bowling, to go to the cinema, in the holidays in theme parks, to make a barbecue or to go on vacation. Because of the husband of my cousin I started to be interested in being an AuPair. He told me of his year and his experiences from America 15 years ago. At the wedding I met his hostfamily. My impression is that it is very fascinating, that both sons were children at that time and that they are still in contact and never forget each other. Now it is clear for me, that I want to spend a year in America after I passed my final exams at school. In addition to the point that I have good experiences with children and I like to play with them, to do exciting things with them, dress them up, and have a look at them when I read stories for them and they are sleeping in my arm, also to cook for them and to teach them new things which they want to learn. I like to see when they are laughing and show them that I will always help them when they have problems. I like to paint some pictures and to do handicraft work or see what is the final result of their work. children have a lot of phantasy. It is fantastic, when I come to the babysitting and the child give me a picture, that he or she only paint for me. No matter what they paint…it is a sign, that they think of me. In such moments, I always remember, that children are wonderful. 5 years ago we lived in Grunendeich, that is two village next to Mittelnkirchen. There we lived in a neighborhood with many children. As I was 10 years old, Chiara was 3 years, Rebecca 5 years, Fabrio 6 years, Elena 7 years, Soren 8 years and Sascha 13 years old. We had a very well relationship and often we went together at the Elbe to a playground. Even at the time Sascha and I looked after the other children. I think, that even then the love and the sense of responsibility developed in my heart. Often we played football together or build tree houses on the banks of the Elbe. All of the children were like my brothers and sisters. It was s wonderful childhood and even today we keep in touch. Ever since I am 14 years old, I have worked as a babysitter. In the neighbourhood it is rather irregular, just if the parents want to go out. But sometimes it is regular. For example, as Wilken (4) when to t course for swimming. During the time he swam, I took a walk with his little sister Maxili (1) and take care of her. it was a very nice moment, as Wilken said to me: May-Britt, can you swim with me the next time? Besides I help children with their homework since I am 16 years old. All beings with Mandy, at that time she was 8 years old and at the 2nd grade. I supported her with the homeworks for one years. In between I started to tutor Melina and Gina. The three girls went to the same class. I help Melina for 3 years and we like each other much. Someday Melinas grandmother said to me: Everytime a friend will ask Melina, if she wants to play Wednesday she just answered: No I haven’t got time, May-Britt comes every Wednesday. I think every time, that private tutoring is a duty and they hate it, but she loves it. A few years ago I made an internship in a day-care center. When I was s child I played in the same day-care center, as well. There I helped the supervisor to look after the children. 20 children between 3 and 7 years were in one group. At the beginning the children were very shy, but they realised quickly, that we can have fun together. I remind of one moment. In a group were a few boys, who only thought of football and can’t sit still. So at first I played with them football until they were bushed. And later they say on my lap and in my arms and I listened to a soccer story. At an other day a new little girl came in the day-care center. It was a new situation for her, her mother went away and she was alone in a very new environment. I comfort her and distracted her from her mother. It went really well. At the next day she cried again. But I had kitchen duty, so another governess had to calm her down, but she cried and cried. She get used to me. Once she was on my arms, the world was so good again and so her mother was allowed to say goodbye. It makes me happy, that the girl felt very well on my arms. The security of the children is very important for me, therefore I took part in a babysitter-course. There I learned a lot about children. The course was not only about safety measures for example for stomachache, a insect sting, a fall, fever, etc., but also hints for games. We learned there activ games, finger games and children songs. To get my driving license I had to do a first aid course. There I learned a lot, too. Since I’ve got my driving license I go by car short routes almost each day, but I drove a longer route to Denmark this summer with three friends to visit my brother on his holidays. This we had wonderful days. We were independend for a few days and we had to take care of us by ourselves. But this is otherwise even no problem for Soren and me, because we have been often at home alone since my parents own their sailing boat. They often go sailing at the weekend or on holidays. In the last summer holidays we were at home alone for two weeks and we spend this time very responsibly. We had to wash, cook and tidy up alone the whole house. Furthermore we had to care for our dog, too, and we had no problems with this duties. But I do not just have experiences to spent time along at home, but also in foreign countries. I took part at two pupil exchanges in the secondary school. With the first exchange I went to Latvia for three weeks in the eighth class. The second exchange I went to France. I lived there with hostfamilies and learned to know the circumstances of the other country. In Latvia I saw how people live in more poverty than in Germany. This is an experience I appreciate very much. I also saw how different the cultures are in other countries, e.g. the food or the people themselves. I am looking forward to learn about the culture of your country during my au pair year, too. I hope that this year will be an enrichment for both us and I would like to say thanks in advance that you will give me this unique chance. I went for 3 years and in this time I met children very special for me and I learned that these children are very stronger people and nothing is impossible for them. Hello, my future host family! I want to tell you more about myself. My name is Oxana. I am 22 years old Ukrainian girl. I live with my parents. My mother (Nadia) is cashier at minimarket. She is 54. My father (Sergey) is a worker. He is 52. My elder brother (Maxim) is a businessman. He is 28. I love my family and I like to spend my time with them. I am fond of pets. I have a dog and two parrots. I like to spend my time on fresh air, at the sea-shore and simply walking through the park. In this year I graduated from Pedagogical University with Honor Diploma of Expert. I chose that educational establishment not by chance. When I studied at school I dreamed to be a teacher. Now it’s my profession. But I feel that I need to have more language practice and more communication with children. That is why this program is exactly what I really need! It suits me in all points. First of all I love children. During my studying at University I was working a lot with children of all ages (from 6 months to 18 years old). Every year we had some school practices. I led English at 5, 6, 9, 10 forms. I found understanding with each pupil (in some cases I needed a lot of time and efforts, but the results were excellent) and with teacher’s stuff. I am rather friendly, sociable and communicative person. On the third course of University (2007-2008) I understood that I really enjoy spending my time with children’s company and I decided to be a teacher of English language at Small Academy of Science (it was voluntary work). I worked with a group of children (primary from 6 forms). I taught them English, we played outside, we made different topical lessons and celebrated English and American holidays in a classroom. It was a great fun for me and for children. In the summer (2008) I went to a summer camp. There I was a leader of children’s groups (As I staid there for three months there were different age groups: 7-10. 10-13. 13-18). Two months I worked with hard children from boarding school. It was difficult I did not deny. But it was my choice. I could simply back home. But I stayed. Every moment of my life was connected with children (from 7 AM till 10 PM). I was as a mother, as a sister, as a teacher and simply as a friend. We talked much, play a lot. I and other leaders organized different sport competitions (in swimming, in running, in playing with ball etc.). By the way, I organized chess competitions and there I was as a referee. We were on duty, watched an order and led educational process. I returned home and continued studying. Than I was asked by my neighbor and friend Anna to help her in bringing up her son Danil. I knew that it was quite difficult period in her life. Her mother went abroad to earn some money and her grandmother had problems with health. So, I agreed with pleasure. Danil was little more then 2 years old. The most part of my weekends and sometimes of working days I spend with Danil. I played with him, we watch TV, walked in a garden (several times I took him in our Park), fed him, put on and put off his clothes. I even taught him to read. In August (2009) I spent one month as a leader of children’s group in summer camp. Then I came back home. Ann didn’t need my help anymore. Her mother returned. Anyway I visited them 2-3 times per month. I attended my classes and worked out as a coach of English for children. At the end of September (2009) I was asked by my friend Galina (we studied together at University) to help her with her son Kostya. Galina continued to attend our classes. She always had lack of time. So I helped her in my free time. It was not easy. Kostya was 6 month only. The child was crying and it was needed to find out a reason. He could be hungry, or wet, or saw a bad dream – anything. But I did my best. I helped Galina feed him, change clothes, lay him to bed etc. At the end of spring I stopped babysitting and coaching because of holding my final exams. At the end of June I hold my finals with excellent marks! This summer I spend at home helping my parents about house and garden. I spend the weekends with my friends. My name is Katharina and I am 19 years old. My birthday is in April. I am living in Aachen, Germany since 1993. Aachen is a big city in the west of Germany. About 250,000 people live in this city. The first years of my life I lived in Duisburg with my mum. We moved because my mother found a new job. My parents separated when I was four. My father has married again. With his new wife he has two other children, two boys who are called Leon and Kenneth. I like them very much and I try to visit them as often as possible. Now I am living with my mum, my brother and my mum’s boyfriend in a little house next to the city. At the moment I am going to school, but I am graduating in June 2010. My favorite subjects at school are Sports and Biology. I have been learning English since 2001 in school, but I think it is not perfect and so I want to improve it in America. My mother is 47 years old and works as a nurse in a hospital. My brother is 15 years old and a student. Since my 18th Birthday I am having my full driving license. I really love and enjoy to drive. My name is Olga and I was born on the 20th of June, 1984 in Kazakhstan. When I was nine years old my family moved to Germany. So I’m experienced with involving in a new culture. That’s why I think I wouldn’t have any problems leaving Germany to stay in the US for one year. Let me tell you a little bit about my family and home. I am living by my own since I am 18 years old. I live in a one-room apartment which my mom bought me. The city where I live is Duisburg. It’s a city in the Ruhr area and is famous for its inland harbor because it’s the biggest in the world. My parents are divorced since I am eleven years. Unfortunately I don’t have any connection to my father but I have a really close and warm relationship to my lovely mother Ella. She is very important to me. My mother is such a wonderful person who is always there for me. I am really happy about her support for my wish to become an Au Pair. I love spending time with my mom. Together we enjoy going out for dinner and to go shopping (she has a really good taste in fashion). Since I am 16 years old, I had the wish to become an Au Pair in the USA. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to do that when I was younger. I think that every person should have a year abroad while they are young. There are many reasons why I want to be an Au Pair. First of all I LOVE children and I like to influence them in a positive way. I think that child raising experience may help me when I start my own family. During the days we go to the playgrounds and parks. Gabriel enjoys feeding ducks very much. When I am at home with him I like to read out for him and show him pictures in the book which I am reading. I prepare meals for him and feed him. I also change the diapers and bath the baby. I used to bring him to bed and helped him to fall asleep. Babies are so adorable and it’s amazing to see them grow and show them new things. Another childcare experience was during my practical training in a kindergarten from October 2007 till December 2007. There were about 16 children at the age of 2 to 6 in my group. During that practical training I learned to keep my eyes open to watch more kids at the same time. I helped preparing breakfast for the kids, we ate together, played board games, did some handicrafts, I used to read out for the children and I also used to look after them while they were playing outside. I enjoyed these weeks and it was a helpful experience for me to care for so many kids at the same time. After my Au Pair year I want to start studying business administration. The nature near the town is very beautiful. We have forest near my town and beautiful lakes. I am sociable, so I have got a lot of friends among my mates. As far as sports activities are concerned, my interesting is kind of all inclusive. I ride bike a lot as a sort of exercise, for example I often go out for dinner by bike with my friends on weekends. Playing badminton, my favorite, ping-pong, basketball are compulsory in my life. So I enjoy my life! I should show you my personality now. in my big family, I live with my grandparents, my parents, two sisters and one little brother. My sisters took care of me when I was little and I certainly know I should care my little brother. This helps me to be easy going in my life. I was educationed by my grandparents and my parents when I was a child that we should realize his own value and try to help others. My motto is “When there is a will, there is a way.” I still remember an instance when I was a freshman in my university. We had a race competition of 800 meters running and were required to run over in a certain time. At the beginning, I failed to manage to do that. However, I refused to give up. I believed I would improve as long as I practiced every day. I finally met the requirement after many morning’s practice. I don’t believe luck and I am the person who believes that fate is mastered in our own hands. It’s a bit of a strange name I know but Thais have different ideas about giving names than some other cultures. My dad loves apples so he and my mum decided to name me after this very popular fruit. I am 24 years old and I’m from Bangkok, Thailand. I live with my mother. I also have 2 older sisters and older brother. They are all married. My family history is a bit confusing and not easy to explain because when I was still very small I moved between my mother and my grandmother in different homes. I went to stay with my grandmother when I was only 3 months old because she was better able to care for me at that time. She have a lovely big house in Ayuttaya, the ancient capital of Thailand before Bangkok. It is usual for Thais to share family responsibilities if money is scarce. We do what we can to support each other. That is how we show our love – by helping each other. In Thailand we don’t have strong social security system like western countries so family is very, very important. My mother is 53 years old. She is a housekeeper for a small English language school. She works very hard. My father is 55 years old. He and my mum are separated and I don’t have much relationship with him. I am sorry for that. My mum has taught me always to work hard. To be fair, honest and responsible. If I made mistakes when I was young, she would explain to me where I went wrong. If I made the same mistake again, she would punish me by stopping my pocket money, ground me and not let me watch TV. But mum never hit me. That is not the way she taught me. She try talking to me, explain to me why I was wrong. I hope I could add some of my mum’s techniques with your own requirement and expectation of taking care of your child/children. At this time I work during the day and study at night. I am study a bachelor degree in tourism and hotel management. I hope in the future to work in tourism industry because I really like helping people. I would love to introduce international tourists to my beautiful country and share Thai experiences. We Thai people are very friendly, gentle, very patient and welcoming people. It is in the Thai nature to take good c are of people. It does not matter where they come from or what is there culture or religion. I have had quite a lot of experience of caring for young children. I studied at a royal program sponsored boarding school for underprivileged children from primary grade 1 to high school grade 6. I must work at the school as part of my study agreement. Boarding students must help a lot with school. When I was in primary grade 6 I must take care of the younger students in grades 1 to 5. I would get up at 5am every morning to prepare the children for school. I would bathe the little ones, help them dress and pack their bags. When my own day was done I would have to clean and help younger kids with their homework. I have also had a lot of experience caring for my older sister’s children. One of my sisters has two children and my other sister has one child. During the time I was studying accounting at vocational college I took care of my sister’s two children who were 8 and 10 years of age. I would cook their meals, play games with them, help them with their homework and put them to bed. When my other sister had her first child I would care for her during the weekend. A year after that my other sister had a second child who I also helped care for. I have also cared for very young infants from 3 months to 7 months old. As you will know, babies this young need constant care and supervision. They are so helpless and tiny. I am very patient person and love caring for children of all ages. Children are still so pure. They are our future. I believe we can have a positive impact on the kind of people they grow up to be based on early life experience. I feel proud to have the opportunity to do this very important job of caring for infants and young children. Even with very young babies who won’t remember me later I still feel so happy to have had some part of their care and nurture. Altogether I have had well over 800 hours child care experience. My name is Shanshan Li. After I graduated from high school, I attended Jinzhou Health School and graduated from that school in 2006 and ever since has been becoming a maternal nurse at Amcare Women’s & Children’s Hospital ( A jointly run American style hospital between America and China) in Beijing, the capital of China. My father is a doctor and my mother is a housewife. When I was a little child, my parents really cared about what kid of person I will be when I grow up. Whenever it was possible, they would let me play with my friends to learn to cooperate; they encouraged me to join in some volunteering groups in school to help those in needs so that I learnt to be a caring person. They never pushed me too hard in terms of school performance, rather they’d’ like me become a very happy person. I can be proud to say that I am a cheerful, open-minded, girl and I am proud to be a very caring nurse. In terms of what I do every day now, I am working in the delivery room at Amcare as a maternal nurse. I feel very happy when I hear the first cry of a newborn who is welcomed to the world by my hands during which I can smell the wonder of a new life. After finishing nursing care of the umbilical cord and cleaning up the thick vernix coseosa with peanut oil, I witness the happiness on the face of a proud mother who is kissing her cute clean baby. When I was in health school, I had taken care of some kids in our neighborhood. The caring strategies I used were different among boys and girls. Girl usually loves dolls and beauty is a must. Understanding this, I dressed the girls well and made them beautiful every day. Other than this, working together with the children, I “tailored” beautiful clothes for those dolls and even tried creatively to make cheongsams for them. For boys who are usually naughtier and like risk-taking, safety consideration is a must. Praising them generously for even the smallest achievement and letting them feel they are the best are very important. My experience with a two year old is something I will keep in my mind forever. A little girl who was just 20 months old was crying a lot when her mom left her at the kindergarten and she preferred staying on her own. When I joined the caring them, I found that even though she did not like to play with other kids a lot, she did not mind other children playing with her own toys. I praised her for her generosity and tired to talk with her. Gradually she would approach me and “complained” others. I then encouraged her to mix with other kids and let other kids invite her to play with them. At the beginning she seemed to feel uneasy, gradually I saw her a very happy real “team player”! I was really happy that the little girl could finally enjoy being in the kindergarten. When her mother asked me why her daughter liked me so much and would like to stay with me for some extra minutes when she picked her daughter up, I smiled and a sense of happiness rose in my heart. My present job is to take care of the newborn in the hospital, part of wich includes educating and assisting the mother for breast-feeding, bathing the babies, feeding formula to the babies who are not breast-feed. Different from older babies, newborns cannot talk; rather they depend on body language. It is crucial to observe attentively and carefully. When he/she cries, first check the nappy to see if it is soiled; if it isn’t, the maybe he/she is hungry; or has a fever? If it is still not the cause, pick him/her up, rock in arms and touch the head to make him/her feel safe. If none of the action is working, he/she still cries for extended time and with high-pitch, then seeking medical attention is required. If you offer me the privilege to be a member in your family, I promise I will take good care of your kid(s), make sure they are safe. If they need help for school work, I would love helping them out. By the way, my math is good and your kids’ math will improve a lot if there really is such a help required. If you like and your kids do not mind, I will also share some Chinese culture with them such as telling them some folk stories popular in China, writing some Chinese character and even trying to speak a little Chinese. Other than taking good care of your kids, I will use the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends and do a good job in the university I will attend. But I’m still a happy “child.” Because my mom was given so much love and attention to me and my brother every day of our life. What can I tell about myself? Well, I’m friendly, cheerful and sociable girl. I like to spend time with interesting people and to learn new things. Since I was 13 I’ve played in a basketball team. We’ve traveled a lot around Ukraine and participated in different competitions and championships. When I was 17 I attended the University on language and Literature department and had to lift my team. But basketball is still my hobby and I love this game! I think the ability to work with kids I inherited from her. in 2006 – 2007 I worked as a teacher in kindergarten “Kalinka.” My class was pretty big – 22 kids! My father was path away and now I have lived with my mother and my aunt. I am very funny, friendly, easy going and smile, generous patient, and very strong of responsibility to work hard. I think I’m very lucky to have a very close family that supports me in all my decision and has instilled in me the values that make me an emotional person, respectful and caring. Since I’m a little girl I’m very active so my mom decided to enroll me in dance class and music to tap in to this energy. Start providing advice and study skills for children 6 to 14 years, after I was given the charge of coordination of the area of English and assistant psycho-educational, in a year and four months working there because of changes on schedule in school I had to quit my job. My students, parents and my boss recommended me on one of the best private schools here in Hermosillo: Liceo Thezia, has been a great experience and got very good results, as well as the acceptance by my students, parents and bosses. I am an extrovert, passionate and independent girl. So I left my hometown in 2002 to study in Dalian, a city which is many miles away from my hometown. I believe that it was a good opportunity to become independent, handle things on my own and improve my communication skills with people. In this period of time I also learned to cook. These experiences is very precious in my life. After graduation, I have been working in Dalian ever since. I like this city because it is the second hometown to me. Also I know some good friend there. Taking care of their lovely kids makes me get a lot of valuable experiences. I have some hobbies such as listening to music; making some art crafts, reading books, travelling, going for outdoor sports etc. My favorite activity is to make handicrafts for children who like it very much. They also bring enormous fun for them while they play. In my free time I also make some lovely things to give to kids as those things make children so happy. When I see them happy, I am happy too. I like learning draw some lovely pictures. These pictures not only make the children learn some useful knowledge, but also bring a lot of joy for the children and myself in this process. I think the world has no bad child but incorrect methods of education. If we use correct methods in taking care of children I think every child will be a happy angel in his (her) family. Though taking care of these kids, I have gained some experience for communicating well with the children as well as their parents. I think being an Au pair in a country like the United States will allow improving myself even more. Taking care of kids also has to be creative. I remember when I took care of my friend’s son who hated eating vegetables, even though my friend persuaded a lot, her son still was very reluctant to eat them. My friend got very angry. I said to her “please let me find a way” Then I found some beautifully shaped vegetables; for example like tree, like butterfly, like sun etc. He liked the process of shaping the vegetables. We can also find another method to cook it. Such as putting some colorful vegetables together, adding ketchup and doing a barbecue. My friend’s babies ate them up very happily. My friend said to me that I was so smart to resolve this tricky matter efficiently. If you can accept me as member of your family. I will make your baby happy and safe. I will make some lovely handicrafts with her (him). If you have some questions I will answer you patiently. I know a lot of story to tell your children at any time. I don’t know whether you like Chinese food or not? If you like it, in my free time I can cook some Chinese food for you and your family. Uzbekistan is also famous with it sunny bazaars overfulled with natural fruits and vegetables. Also Uzbek food is famous with its delicious taste. Currently, I’m living with my family: Mom, Dad and my cat, which treats itself as a most important member of the family. My Mom is a desighner, and my Dad is a cabinet-maker. I had been working in three orphan’s houses, one of which was for kids with physical and mental problems (disabled kids). It was so unbelievable to work there and I just felt that they really need my help and support. So I couldn’t abandon them. I was teaching them how to paint twice a week. I’ve noticed that everytime these kids were waiting for my lessons and that was the best reward for me. After some time when we had enough pictures, I organized art exhibitions. We were selling pictures at this exhibitions and money earned was sent to the orphan’s houses. Honestly, I can say that it was a great time for me, and unforgettable experience! I always enjoy being next to the children and since 16 years old I have been working with children. I have also completed courses of Home Nurse as well as private lessons with children’s therapist. Moreover, when I was 16, during summer break, I was helping my friend in kindergarten (for kids 6 month – 3 years old.) I was mainly looking after kids during their game time, helping with feeding and taking to work. Next year I went to work as a counselor in a child resort. I had a group of kids (boys and girls) 5-8 years old. I was taking care of them during entertainment, swimming, games, etc. I believe, it was a wonderful time for me and for them. Also I worked as a private nanny in different families with children aged from 5 months up to 12 years old. I was taking care of the kids everyday during the day time. I gave every help to the mothers of the children by feeding, bathing, putting to bed, playing, taking to walk and entertaining. I really enjoy to see their happy smiles. So I asked her “Do you remember when you watch the Animal world, how the tiger eat?” Zirui said, “The tiger open his mouth big.” (Zirui is very love the tiger) I said to her, “Open your tiger-like mouth and eat your meal up.” It worked and Zirui stated her meal without running. I like to stay with children. In the children’s innocent eyes, the life full of love, full of sunshine. Looking at their innocent smiling faces, I feel like I am child them. Because I have professional knowledge on Mental Health Education, I like to observe the children’s every movement. I like to answer children’s questions. They always ask “why” constantly. So I can maintain a curious heart, discover with them, and explore the world together. Childhood is a carefree, beautiful memories, so I cherish every moment with the kids. Hello, my name is Deysi Abigail Pacheco Silvestre. I am from Hermosillo, a city located in the northwestern part of Mexico. I am a 21 years old girl, who tries her best to understand and speak English. Even when I have taken English classes, my performance of the language is not the best. I also like to know people wherever they might be from, and I would be very glad to know people from another culture, like yours. For these and many other reasons I got into this program and I would really like you to accept me, you will not regret it. I have been studying my career in Marketing, but this year I decided to do something different. Enrolling into this program will give me experience and will change my way of seeing things. In the meanwhile, I have been working in a cafeteria-shop at the local airport, since this place is near to my home. There I see how people travel and go to other cities or countries, so I thought: “If other people can go to other cities, why can’t I?” I found Au-Pair Foundation and I thought that I would be really cool travel somewhere else doing something I like and stay there for a while knowing about the culture and language. I like children a lot; I have experience taking care of them. S starting since I was very young, I took care of my youngest brothers and occasionally my neighbor’s kids. Eventually when I grew up some more years, there were some more people who would ask me to take care of their children. You might be wondering why I like kids. Well, I find them very interesting, weather having I little baby in my arms or having kids running around me playing and hanging around. I see that they are innocent, funny and they can have a good behavior just saying the right thing. So, you see? I find certain connection with them. Because some people say that they are able to take care of a child, but I say that this is not as easy as it sounds, every kid is different and needs distinct words, hugs and cuddles. When I am not working or taking care of children, my free time, I like to read, listen some music and even to make some sports. I like riding my bicycle, going for a walk in a park near to my home or going out with my friends. Sometimes we go to the movies or to some restaurant, just spending time with the people I love feels good. But there is something more, I like to play chess very much. I fact, I have won some championships and I would be delighted to teach you or your children to play. I grew up in a catholic home, I believe in God. This does not mean that I might have a problem if you are not catholic; I just want to say that every day I try to be a good and better person and overcome any problem or challenge I might have. Since I was in the high school I was always interested in the children, I really enjoy their smiles and I like to play with them, I also like to be friendly and very sweet. I know that they are the most important people and I get really proud of them when they learn something new with me. My hometown in Chengdu, Sichuan province which is the pandas’ hometown; I guess you must have heard of pandas before. If you ever come to Chengdu, I would be very pleased to be your guide. She has two children – a ten year old boy and an eight month old baby. I often called her my little sister – as my uncle often goes away on business, so I would help to take care of her, when my aunt was busy. Every night when she was tired, she would cry. I would read stories to her – to begin with, she carried on crying but I keep reading to her, and it seemed as if she fell into love with my story. Her small mouth opening and her eyes sparkling with a pure smile. Her hands would try to grab my story book. I would then put her on the bed lightly and keep reading with a quiet voice with my hand patting her. she would soon fall into sweet sleep, sucking her thumb. Besides this, I helped to look after my little brother, the 10 year old boy. He is a naughty, but smart boy. Every weekend we do sporting activities together – we often play badminton and table tennis. I am usually the badminton champion and he is the table tennis champion. When we get home, we watch movies, sometimes I teach him math. Sometimes he will test me on my English vocabulary. If I could not answer, he would tell me the words and ask me to repeat them after him. I used to say to him: “You are so great! You can be my English teacher!” I like children, no matter how difficult they can be sometimes. As long as I see children’s lovely faces and smiles, I would be happy in a short time and forget the problems right away. I like to play with them, look after them. I enjoy it and can release my inner child. One day, I will play the role of “mother”, through this Au pair opportunity. I would accumulate more experience in childcare, which will help me to be a great mother in the future. I have extensive hobbies, my favorite sports are: swimming, badminton, jogging and horse riding. I have a dream that one day I could write a travel book. The most attractive point of au pairing is the chance to make different friends and experience different cultures. America is developed in art and advertising, this atmosphere would be helpful for me to become a better designer. Of course, I love children, being with them makes me happy. My parents have two children: me, and my sister Waranya is 23 years old. I born in suburb of Udon-Thani it's a big city in North-Eastern part of Thailand. I have an extended family and there are houses of my relatives located in same area of my house. It’s made us close. But, when I was 5 years old I move to Sukhothai, stay away from my relatives and that was when I started taking care of myself and my younger sister. Since when I was student in primary school, someday if my parents busy with work especially in the time that I and my sister went back from school. I have to take care myself and my sister such as teach her homework and cook for her. So that’s the reason I like to cook and I have good skill for cooking. Since I was young I interested in Art and my family support me so well. I tried to learn in every kind of Art skill. I used to be student representative joined in “Student Art Skill Competition of Northern part of Thailand” and I was winner for 5 years. It’s very good experience because I could make a lot of friends in this competition. And finally I found Art made me calm and have concentration. After I graduated from high school I entered the Naresuan University by passing the examination. My study field was Art & Design, I love all of activities in my university. My name is Tetiana. I am 24 years old. I am part of the big united family. My father is chemist, mother is housewife, I also have two brothers – twins. They are 17.5 years old. Several years ago cat and dog was joined to us. And now our pets are full members of our family. Whole my life is connected closely with the children. Since 7 till 17 years old these children were my brothers. Then my studying in the university was begun. During that period I worked with the children in psychological centers and rehabilitation organizations. There I with my friends realized several programs for children. After the graduating my university I got wide work experience as psychologist in the center of the creative work. My responsibilities were consisting of organization and realization psychological trainings for children. We were playing, listening to music, writing poems and fairy tales, drawing and making sculptures. We turned off the light, put out candles and read different stories about good and bad, about patience and attention, about care and love. I tried to show the whole world to these children, its colors and miracles. We were describing emotions, fighting with the fears. It was very interesting and important for my professional state. Now I’m working as psychologist in the kindergarten. It’s a very special job, because I deal with the smallest children. It’s rather difficult, but I like my job and I always try to bring these positive emotions to the children. Several days a week in the evening I spend my time as child’s tutor of English language. And sometimes my friends ask me about babysitting with their children. So, my life is full of the meetings and events. But I would like to see different parts of the world. I think au-pair program is the perfect way for me. I find communication with children very enjoyable for myself. I could teach them a lot of things, but they can also teach me. Pingdu County, a small county of Shandong Province, is my hometown where I was born and lived for more than 18 years before entering university. There are some famous tourist resorts in my hometown as the following: Mountain Yun Temple – a sacred place of the Taoist religion; tablet inscriptions of the Northern Dynasties on Mountain Tianzhu – gems of calligraphy art; Garret for a thousand of figure of Buddha – a Buddhism building built in Qing Dynasty; Dragon river bend – a multiple scenic spot with numerous of historic sites and strange landscape; Mountain Daze – which has a long history and beautiful view including spring, waterfall, cave, strange stone, age-old tree, pavilion and so on and is rich in grapes, well-known as “the home of grape”. Maybe for other girls of the same age with me, looking after baby is a tiring and boring job, while for me, it is enjoyment to stay with kids and take good care of them. Since I love kids very much, it is widely accepted among my friends that I am definitely the kind of person who will be a perfect wife and mother in the future. Meanwhile, I am easy-going, careful, always patient with children, and have the sense of responsibility. My rich experience of caring for baby and kids is sufficient for me to be a qualified au pair, because I have been taking care of kids for many years. Since the year of 1998, I began to take care of my little brother and my younger cousin. I cooked dinner for them, fed them, picked them by bus to kindergarten and so on. Also I often read fairy tales for them. They showed great interests in my reading. Especially under my instruction and help, my little brother cultivated the habit of reading and learned many Chinese words before school, which laid a good foundation for his Chinese study in the future. For another example, when I assisted my friend to look after one-year-old Anqi Chen (their little daughter’s name) in the summer vocation of 2008, I dressed her, played games with her, such as passing balls; changed diapers, fed her with milk, bread, vegetables at the right time, cradled her to sleep, read a story and sang for her. I also bathed for little Anqi. For guaranteeing her safety and happy bath, I always smear soap onto her face lightly by not so wet towel, then I cleaned her for several times by a wet and not dripping towel. On 2-to-3 centimeters of water was put in a bath tub, and I gave her a few toy duck of balata, then began to bath her. After finishing bath, I would first hold her to bed in case of her getting a cold, then dried her with a towel and got dressed for her. We really spent pleasant days together. In the course of looking after children, many interesting things happened. I remembered when I took care of the children in a kindergarten, one day a 4-year-old girl Xiaohong asked me: “dear teacher, where does chicken come from?” I said: “It is born in eggs.” If it is so, I do not dare eat eggs.” Xiaohong replied. I was a little surprised for that, so I asked “Why?” “How do I deal with the matter if a chicken is born in my stomach.” she responded. At the moment, I couldn’t help laughing loud. It will be my honour for being choosen as your Au pair, and I am confident that you will never regret your choice. I will treat the kids as my own little brother and sister, and do my best to take good care of them! I hope that we can spend a happy and memorable year together, and be good friends forever! My name is Karol, I am 24 years old, I am studying at the University the Tourism and Hotel Management. I am from Arequipa-Peru. I am writing to you so that you can get to know me and you will be sure that you can trust of me the caring of your children. I lived in San Juan, it is a small valley, It is 4 hours from Arequipa. We lived there because my daddy worked in a Mining Company, my mom always devoted to the care of me and my two brothers: Carlos is the oldest, next comes Arturo and I am the youngest. We studied there from kindergarten until high school. In this place I had a happy childhood and I met good friends who are still my friends. When I finished school we moved to Arequipa so I have lived here since 2002. One year I studied in an Academy to apply for University and I came into Tourism and Hotel Management. Now, I live with my parents, my brother Arturo and my cousin Isaul who has lived with us a lot of years. My oldest brother Carlos got married to Susy two years ago and 6 months ago. They live in Chile because Carlos works there. They have a child “Valentino”. He is one year and 6 months. Whom I love because I took care of him since he was born until he was 19 months. During my years in the University, I have heard about the Au Pair Program by some close friends who traveled with this program, but my decision to register like an Au Pair was made this year because I am on the fifth year and I want to left the last semester until I come back to Peru. Then It will be easier to finish my career and I can register into another program to travel to another foreign country but to work on my professional career. I mainly decided for this program because for me, It has different advantages: I have the opportunity to know a foreign country, have good experiences there, improve my English level, study something related to my career and work taking care of children that is something I have always wanted to do. I have worked caring children for two families here in my country, another experience that I had was this year in an Orphanage near to my home where I came in like a volunteer for 4 months. I used to go there on weekends. Those days were very beautiful because I shared funny moments with them, I could learn more about children and their life. They were affectionate and I felt very happy. Now I can say It was the best experience in my life. I had the leave the Orphanage because I started to work in a Travel Agency and that is a good opportunity for my career. In some vacations I was away from home because I traveled to Camano Beach for 3 months, for me this is a good place to relax. I am thinking to travel to United States to work as an Au Pair since January because I want to be with my family in these important days as Christmas and New Year. I am a tour guide for several years, so whenever you have a trip to China, I would like to show you around. I live in a warm family with five people: my parents, a little brother, an elder sister, and me; there are also a dog and a kitty in my home. Due to my natural love with children. I chosen the line of Au Pair. I live in a joint family. There are my grand parents, my father, mother younger sister and two brothers. My father is S. Karam Singh. He is a farmer. My mother’s name Karamjit Kaur. She is a housewife my brothers and sister are doing study. I take care of my brother and sister when my parents are away from home or out of station. I am the eldest child in my family. I give them education and feed them. I give my full attention while they play. I love my grand parents. I take care of my grand father and mother. They are head of our family so, I respect them. Evening time I goes to gurdwara Sahib with my grand parents. When they health is not good. I go with them get medicine form doctor. I wake up at 6 am in the morning time then I do brush and take bath. Then I pray to God. I help with my mother in make breakfast. Then I serve to all family member. I take care of my house in terms of cleanliness. I also look after my lawns and plants new flowers. As for my hobbies are concerned. I like listening to music making food playing with small children. I like to play soccer. I like to read story books. I like to watch action movies I like gardening. I also like going out with my friends to see movie and we talk and chat on internet. I also like surfing internet I also like playing with children. I have been looking after 3 children. They are two boys aged 5 and 7 years and one girl – 8 months. I take care of them in the morning. The little girl name is Kamal Preet Kaur. She is my neighbourhood daughter. I do all work for her. Such as I give her mild change her dress and play with her. She is very charming child. She loves playing with water it’s quite hot here She loves being bathed twice a day. I also used to take her out in the evening. We would usually go to the park and she would love walking all around. The other two boys were Gurkirat Singh He is 7 years old and Harman Singh. He is 5 years old. They both were very intelligent and smart children. I used to prepare food for them, dress them up for the school drop them and pick them from school. We used to play cricket and football together and Harman Singh likes to watch TV cartoons programe. Also I like to meet new people and experience various cultures of people from U.S.A. I come to know about au pair programe of U.S.A though newspaper add and I applied go for this programe. I will meet new person and will know about the personality and life style. It will be my pleasure to meet the people and to know the culture of this country. I plan to come back to India. Then I left the home as Mrs. Aryal left her office and herself started looking after her younger son and the daughter. Talking about my experience as a play group teacher in Milestone Youth English School; there are different age group kids, and all are cute, lovely and so much funnier in their work. I had to be with them the whole day, feed their food, changing diapers and all the necessary work to look after the kids. Although it was a tough job, I enjoyed my time over there. My name is Ina Jennifer Borsch and I am 22 years old. I live in a small village called Solingen, which is in the west of Germany, to be more precise, in North Rhine-Westphalia. I live here with my Mum in a little cozy house next to the city. My Mum and me get along very well and enjoy lots of activities together. I hope this letter will help you to decide if I am the right Au Pair for you. First of all, I would like to tell you something about me and my family. My parents are divorced for 10 years but they are still good friends. My Mom who is called Jutta, works as an office manager and my Dad, who is called Leo, works at a bank. I have a very close relationship to my parents and the both do fully support my decision to become an Au Pair. They are very excited about my plans of spending a year in the United Sates of American with a great host family. In June 2007 I got my A-Level and after that, I have done an education as an office manager. Art has been my favourite subject in school and I also liked German, English and Music-lessons. I have been learning English since 1999 in school, but it’s not perfect of course, so I really want to improve my English in the USA. During my school days, I have worked at a fastfood restaurant and at a fashion boutique. I like to work in the service and get to know a lot of people. It was very interesting to me. Since my 18th birthday I have my full driving license. I really love and enjoy driving. I have no own car, but often use the car of my Mum. While my education as an office manager I made a first aid course. In my sparetime I really like to meet my friends. I enjoy going to the cinema, reading books, listening to music, going to concerts and playing piano. I also like swimming, drawing and photography. My favourite hobby is dancing. Since I was 12 years old, I have been dancing in a ballroom-dancing-club and I went to dancing competitions. Furthermore I would like to tell you more about my character: I am an open-minded person, who likes to be in company. I am friendly, responsible, reliable and very active/creative. It is never boring to spend time with me, because I am very flexible and funny. Now I want to tell you something about my experiences with children: I have been working as a babysitter since I was 16 years old. Since that time I care for several children. I really love to spend time with children and to show them new things. It’s so amazing to see them smiling and growing up. The children are always very happy when they see me and when we can spend time together. Mostly I care for them children in evenings or on weekends. With children I like to sing, to read books, to do handicrafts, to play (inside or outside) or to dance. We often go to the playground. I pick them up from the kindergarten or form school and then I often help the elder children with their homework. With the elder children I like to go to different activities. I am really enjoying teaching kids and I’m very happy that I had a chance to teach crafts in Sunday school. This summer I also had a great opportunity to be a group leader in teens camp for the first time in my life. It was a very good time that I spent with these kids. This camp was for kids from socially disadvantaged families. I learned that love can do great things in the lives of the people. I love sports, so I go out to run with him. I am also a dancer since I was 6 years old, I have been in every single dance competition ever since, I’ve danced ballet, hip hop, belly dance, jazz. And in almost all I’ve been in the first three, I was a dance teacher twice, one in my dance academy in a group of girls from 8 to 10, and as a social service for my school. I am very creative, one way of spending my free time is making handicrafts, like bracelets, necklaces, y also paint and re-invent my clothes, I love taking photos and later I edit them, and I’m also a model, a hobbies that I enjoy a lot because think a photograph is a way to express your self. Being good at dance didn’t make me a bad student, actually I’m very dedicated, I always have had good grades. I also enjoy reading and writing, every year one of my goals is reading ten books in the twelve months, and for the last 2 year I have accomplish that goal, that’s something that characterize me, my perseverance, if I want something I will do everything that is in my hands to do it, I am very talkative and open minded, that makes me easy-going and it helps me to adapt from changes, actually, I like changes, because this world is too big to stay always the same, traveling and knowing people culture and places should be a “most” for everybody, I am very open minded but I also know when boundaries are needed, I always teat people with respect because that’s what I have learned.
